Extended Care

The Extended Care Program at The Hockessin Montessori School offers five separate opportunities for children.

The Before School Care Program begins at 7:00am and ends at the appropriate start time for each child's academic day.

The After School Care Program begins at the conclusion of the Academic school day and is available until either 4:30 or 6:00pm depending upon the needs of the family.

Drop-In Care is available for parents on an "as needed" basis in both the Before School Care and After School Care Programs.  Parents need only call the school during the day to request placement of a child into either of these programs.

The Vacation Care Program is offered on non-holiday days when classes are not in session.  The program is offered from 7:30am-5:30pm.

The Summer Camp Program is offered for ten weeks each summer.  Hours of operation are from 7:30am until 5:30pm.  For a detailed description of each program, please refer to the additional information provided.

Before School Care
The Hockessin Montessori School provides child care for children prior to the beginning of the academic school day.  The Before School Care Program offers games and crafts for the enjoyment of the students.  Staff members interact with the students providing activities that help ease children into the beginning of the day.  Before School Care takes place in our Extended Care room which offers opportunities for individual, small, and/or large group interaction.  A quiet reading area is also available in order to help transition students from the home environment to the school environment.  The Program opens at 7:00am and dismissal is staggered in conjunction with the academic school hours.

After School Care
The After School Care Program at The Hockessin Montessori School has been designed to provide, safe, educational, fun, and quality care for all children.  The students are divided into groups consistent with the levels of the school's programs, so that there is both continuity and appropriate activities for all.  Snack is provided at 4:30 everyday for those students who are enrolled in the program until 6:00pm.

Toddler
The toddlers remain in their classroom environment until 4:30 pm. They enjoy free play, group time, arts and crafts and outdoor or gym.  At 4:30 pm, those children who remain, join the older students in the Extended Care room, where they participate in a mixture of group or or free play activities.

Children's House
The Children's House students have two enrichment programs each day between the hours of 3:00 and 4:30pm.  Their Enrichment programs run on four week cycles with programs occurring on the same days each week.  Examples of the programs include cooking, gymnastics, art, pottery, etc.  The Hockessin Montessori School is also pleased to offer additional opportunities for our children that are provided by outside vendors.  Programs that have been offered include Soccer Shots (introductory lessons for 3 to 8 year olds), Young Rembrandts (a children's drawing program), Karate, and Science Explorers.  The After School Care Program, from 4:30 - 6:00pm, is comprised of a mixture of counselor led group activities and independent free play time.

Primary and Elementary
A homework (study hall) room operates from 3:00-3:30pm, Monday through Thursday .  Students then proceed to their enrichment program for that day until 4:30pm.  Enrichment programs run on four week cycles, and are on the same day each week.  (A sample schedule would be Floor Hockey - Monday, Cooking - Tuesday, Art - Wednesday, Newspaper - Thursday, and Free Activities - Friday.)

Middle School
Middle School students who require after school care may attend free of charge until 4:30pm, however, they are required to work as "Counselors in Training."  Our CIT's interact with the younger students and act as role models and mentors.  The students have Study Hall from 3:00pm until 3:45pm and then move on to work as CIT's until 4:30pm.  Those students who require after school care from 4:30 on will be charged  a fee.

Vacation Care
Vacation Care is offered on non-holiday days when classes are not in session.  The program runs from 7:30am until 5:30pm.  The day consists of indoor and outdoor play, art activities, lunch, nap time (age appropriate), snack (morning and afternoon), field trips for older children, and games.  The fees for Vacation Day Care are in addition to Before and After School Care and can be contracted for the year (at a discounted rate) or on a daily basis (first-come-first-serve) basis with at least one week prior registration.

Summer Camp
Recreational and educational programs for children ages 2 through 12 are available throughout the summer.  Detailed information regarding Summer Camp is available on this website under the heading of "Summer Camp."
